程振鈞家族墓園遺跡 CHENG TOMB
2019年10月26日, 江蘇省無錫惠山腳下,民國先驅程振钧孙女旅美华人程娟沿家史所载家族葬地线索在途遇龙山六位贵人数日遍山奮力寻找下,终于在丛莽中发现石坊柱一对(碑文为民国十七年吴敬恒撰曹铨书)。经無錫文史大家秦绍楹及無錫圖書館古籍部主任朱剛辨识定为「程振钧墓和家族墓园」。

Cheng, granddaughter of Cheng Zhen Jun, discovered remains of Cheng Tomb on Oct, 26th, 2019, verified by Qin Shaoying, a prominent local historian in Wuxi, and Zhu Gang, head of the Ancient Books Department at the Wuxi Library. The Fourth National Census of Cultural Heritage Protection in process.

婺源程氏祖居地 CHENG'S BIRTHPLACE
婺源古城西培里, 民國二程兄弟程振鈞程振基的出生地, 也是自明末程家14代祖先居住地。他們聚族而居,建立程氏宗祠溯源堂, 世代科舉,樂善好施,成為有擔當的族群領袖,是中國千年徽州族群文化中的生動典範與寫照。
Wuyuan, the birthplace of the Republican-era Cheng brothers: Cheng Zhen Jun and Cheng Zhen Ji, and home to 14 generations of Cheng Confucian scholars since the mid-17th century. Wealth by commerce, and philanthropy by practice, they lived around the Cheng Clan Temple and facilitated local or even national affairs. Cheng's legacy stands as a vivid testament to the millennia-old Huizhou culture in China.

1929年首屆西湖博览会(6月6日-10月20日)由國民政府與浙江省政府張靜江主辦,浙江省建設廳長西湖博覽會副會長,西湖博覽會籌備委員會主席程振鈞一手操辦。它推動中國現代化發展正式進入世界格局。此次現代化盛會宗旨:提倡国货、奖励实业、振兴文化,被誉为“旷代之盛典,湖山之嘉会”!
The 1929 Inaugural West Lake Expo, sponsored by Zhejiang government, and organized by Cheng Zhen Jun, energized China’s modernization and propelled China onto the world stage.

程振鈞開創杭徽公路 Huang - Hui Highway
杭徽公路是一條從無到有,從全盤規劃到籌款實施,程振鈞先生用生命鋪就的現代化公路。1933年11月26日杭徽公路全線竣工通車,大幅推動浙皖經濟與商旅往來。被譽為「皖浙公路之父」程振鈞先生的「交通興邦、實業救國」精神成為時代典範。
From vision to blueprint, from planning to completion, Huang Hui Highway was the brainchild of Cheng Zhen Jun, who dedicated his very life to its creation. Upon its completion in 1933, the Hang Hui highway greatly boosted economic activity and trade between Zhejiang and Anhui provinces. Cheng Zhen Jun. Cheng's vision of “revitalizing the nation through transportation and saving the country through industry” became a defining ideal of his era.

This historical photograph captures Cheng’s tireless fundraising efforts for the building of the Huang–Hui Highway, a project he had envisioned and outlined in his 1920 publication Planning of Anhui Provincial Roads.

The Soul of Yantze River
長江水 民族魄 Cheng's Requiem
安徽建設廳長程振鈞從上海為修建杭徽公路籌款酷暑中歸來第二天即1932年8月8日凌晨一點腦淤血迸發,暴斃於安慶任所。程振钧中國建設嘔心瀝血,汗撒長江,以身殉職。消息傳開,舉國哀悼導師頓失。87年後,孫女程娟登臨振風塔,極目遠眺,悲喜交集。
Cheng Zhen Jun, Director of Development of Anhui Province, suffered a fatal cerebral hemorrhage and died on duty at his Anqing office on August 8, 1932, shortly after his fundraising in Shanghai for the Anhui–Zhejiang, or Hang–Hui, Highway. In 2019, J.J. Cheng climbed the Wind-Conquering Tower to pay tribute to her grandfather, a great hero and martyr of modern China.

紀念徽杭公路90年 A CELEBRATION
鮑义来,方有正,方利山,王红春等人率众在昱嶺關纪念徽杭公路通车90周年。程振鈞曾孫程志強,後人程長平,程祖安到場,程娟趕製26 分鐘紀念片《徽杭頌》海外遙祝。
程振鈞(1888–1932)近代中國交通建設的先驅者、皖浙公路之父。
A commemoration was held on November 26, 2023, at Yuling Pass to mark the 90th anniversary of the opening of the Huizhou–Hangzhou Highway. Cheng Zhen Jun’s great-grandson, Cheng Zhiqiang, was present, while J.J. Cheng sent in her 26-minute film tribute, Ode to the Hui–Hang Highway, from New York.

TEMPLE OF CHENG ZHU NEO CONFUCIANISTS
洛閩溯本 程朱闕里 relics unearthed
号称“程朱阙里”的篁墩村是程朱理学的创始人的程颢、程颐(洛陽出生)的籍贯地,和朱熹(福建出生)的祖籍地,所以称为“洛闽溯本”。篁墩原有程氏统宗祠、世忠庙、程朱阙里坊、程朱三夫子祠、朱家巷等大量文化古迹已毁. 2019年秋程娟到訪篁墩正值“洛闽溯本”出土之時。
In the autumn of 2019, J.J. Cheng’s arrival coincided with the excavation of the ruins of the “Tracing the Roots to Luomin” (洛闽溯本) Archway in Huangdun Village, renowned as the ancestral birthplace of Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi, the founders of Cheng–Zhu Neo-Confucianism, and Zhu Xi, the great synthesizer of Neo-Confucian thought.

两程故里位于河南省嵩县田湖镇程村,距洛阳70公里左右,是宋代理学家程颢、程颐两兄弟著述、讲学的地方之一。程娟2024年秋冬到訪,探尋二程家譜以發現三伯程威廉悼詞中指出的是程顥嫡系的世系脈絡。
Located about 70 kilometers from Luoyang in Henan Province lies the hometown of Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi, the Neo-Confucian scholars of the Song dynasty. In the autumn of 2024, J.J. Cheng visited the town to explore her lineage as a descendant of the Cheng brothers, as attested in the eulogy of her uncle, William Cheng (1917-1978)

Cheng, also known as Phoenixa Cheng, granddaughter of Cheng Zhen Jun, is a former English-speaking journalist and anchor at China Central Television, China, and is now an intercultural author, filmmaker, and family historian. Since 2015, she has passionately devoted herself to uncovering the Cheng family history, long hidden from her.

The 2026 Scotland Expedition
In the summer of 2026, award-winning author and filmmaker J.J. Cheng travels to Scotland to trace the footsteps of her grandfather, Cheng Zhen Jun (1888–1932), one of the earliest Chinese students to study at the University of Glasgow, arriving in 1909. More than a century later, his granddaughter sets foot on the soil of Scotland in search of her family’s Scottish story and the spirit of the Scottish Enlightenment, exploring the profound influence Scotland’s intellectual and industrial legacy had on the making of modern China.
CHENG LEGACY is an ongoing documentary, publishing, and historical research project exploring the intellectual, cultural, and educational connections between Scotland, Britain, and China during a pivotal period of world history. We welcome conversations with:
